dd4bcebd7c flite: use FLITE_STRIP_COMPONENTS and FLITE_SUBDIR
So far, to overcome the buggy way the flite tarball is made, we had to
override the extract commands in a rather ugly way.

The newly introduced <PKG>_STRIP_COMPONENTS, along with <PKG>_SUBDIR and a
little edit to the patches, allow to remove the custom FLITE_EXTRACT_CMDS,
slightly simplifying the flite.mk code.

2af75321d2 kismet: mark as not available for static builds
This reverts commit a3365ebf72, and
marks kismet as not available for static builds.

Commit a3365ebf72 is indeed
insufficient, since kismet uses <dlfcn.h> in two places, both in
kismet_server and kismet_client. And it's fairly unlikely that kismet
will be used in pure static environments, so let's not support this
use case.

ef7cc99c7a pkg-generic: fix fallout of <pkg>_STRIP_COMPONENTS introduction
The introduction of <pkg>_STRIP_COMPONENTS broke the build of the
target tar package, because support/dependencies/check-host-tar.mk
defines TAR_STRIP_COMPONENTS to --strip-components. Which leads to
have the package infrastructure do:

 $$(TAR_STRIP_COMPONENTS)=$$($(2)_STRIP_COMPONENTS)

which for the tar package evaluates to:

 $$(TAR_STRIP_COMPONENTS)=$$(TAR_STRIP_COMPONENTS)

which evalutes to:

 --strip-components=--strip-components

Which obviously doesn't work really well. And in fact the
TAR_STRIP_COMPONENTS definition in
support/dependencies/check-host-tar.mk is no longer necessary: it was
needed in the days where we were trying to support old tar versions
that did not support --strip-components. But nowadays, when such an
old tar version is encountered, we build our own host-tar which
supports --strip-components.

5ec154fa41 c-icap: disable Perl support
The Perl support in c-icap does not build properly, because it queries
the system-installed Perl for cflags/ldflags, which returns things
like -I/usr/local/include causing build failures since those are
invalid paths when cross-compiling.

Since there is no easy way to fix that without changing c-icap
configure.in, let's disable the Perl support for now, until someone is
interested enough to fix this up.

be2b20be6e package/cryptodev-linux: use the kernel-module helper
The kernel module needs the version.h headers at build-time, but the
Makefile only generates it when the module is built with that Makefile,
because it has this rule:

    build: version.h
        make ${KERNEL_MAKE_OPTS} modules

So, we must explicitly build this header, which we do in a pre-build hook
to ensure it comes before the kernel-module's own hooks. This header needs
not be installed in staging.

However, the cryptodev.h header still needs to be installed in staging,
which we still do in a staging-install command.

The KERNEL_DIR and PREFIX variables are no longer needed, because we're
no longer calling the rules that needed them (build, above, and
modules_install, both now handled by the kernel-module infra).

lttng-modules' Makefile already uses the Linux buildsystem to build its
modules, so just switch to using the new kernel-module infra.

To be noted: lttng-modules' Makefile uses $(shell pwd) that expects the
PWD to be the Linux' top build directory, which is not the case for us.
However, it uses to detect a conflict between a stale static version.h
and a generated version.h (due to the switch to uapi). This is of no
consequence to us, because we can't have a Linux build directory with
such stale files.

8b525dc934 package-infra: add helper to build kernel modules
The Linux kernel offers a nice and easy-to-use infra to build
out-of-tree kernel modules.

Currently, we have quite a few packages that build kernel modules, and
most duplicate (or rewrite) the same code over-and-over again.

Introduce a new infrastructure that provides helpers to build kernel
modules, so packages do not have to duplicate/rewrite that.

The infrastructure, unlike any other package infra, is not standalone.
It needs another package infra to be used. This is so that packages that
provide both userland and kernel modules can be built easily. So, this
infra only defines post-build and post-install hooks, that will build
the kernel modules after the rest of the package.

We need to override PWD, because some packages will use it to find their
own includes (and other helper files). PWD is inherited from the
environment, so it gets whatever value it had when make was launched,
which happens to be Buildroot's own top source tree. So, we just force
PWD to the proper value, rather than cd-ing first.

Also, no host version is provided, since it does not make sense to build
kernel modules for the host.

73b9a5ee02 Add <PKG>_STRIP_COMPONENTS for packages with non-standard tarballs
Usually package tarballs contain only a directory named
"<pkg-name>-<pkg-version>" which contains the actual source tree. To properly
extract the source files in $(BUILD_DIR), Buildroot passes the
--strip-components=1 option to tar.

Unfortunately a few packages ship in a non-standard way, with no root
directory or with more than one. In Buildroot these packages must be handled by
overriding the <PKG>_DOWNLOAD_CMDS.

As the number of such packages is growing, introduce a <PKG>_STRIP_COMPONENTS
variable for packages to request a number of components to strip different
from 1.

4837354fff pkg-generic: Fix host _DL_VERSION corner case
In the case when a package has a host version, the package is dependent
on the host version, and the version contains a '/', the host version
does not evaluate properly. The host version will contain a '_' instead
of a '/', resulting in a failed download. To solve this corner case, add
a check to see if the _DL_VERSION of the package has been defined before
defining the host _DL_VERSION. If the package _DL_VERSION has not been
defined yet, then the version string has not been formatted yet and is
still good to use.

[Arnout: further simplify things by lifting the override over _VERSION
out of the condition - it is always the same.]

This error occured on a package in a BR2_EXTERNAL that uses a git repo
for its remote storage with '/' in the tag names. I do not believe this
affects any packages in the Buildroot mainline but it could in the
future.

15cd6fe222 gpu-viv-bin-mx6q: bump to 5.0.11.p4.1
Bump the Vivante drivers to 5.0.11.p4.1. The version scheme has changed
and 5.0.11.p4.1 is indeed the latest version.

In addition to the version bump, other changes are done to handle the
new directory organisation.

The work behind this commit was funded by ECA Group
<http://www.ecagroup.com>. ECA Group is the copyright owner of the
contributed code.

Changelog:
- Package version is changed to use Vivante version
- imx-gpu-viv includes separate sub packages for demos and tools
  to support flexible package additions
- Graphics package is reorganized to improve library layout
- New GPU tool apitrace is added - supported only for X11 backend (not
  supported yet)
- gpu-viv-g2d shares same package with imx-gpu-viv (not supported yet)

This patch is based on the Yocto equivalent:
74c86aa963

[Gary:
1- used the pkgconfig files provided in the package from now on
  2- extend the commit log
  3 - add a symlink for libGAL_egl.so as it wasn't working on X
    - had to do a fixup as for some reason the lib is called libGAL_egl.dri.so
Without that last symlink change, the tutorial examples were
missing some symbols and qtbase wouldn't build.

This package has been tested with both X11 and Framebuffer backends;
 # cd /usr/share/examples/viv_samples/vdk/
 # ./tutorial7 ]

Even though ARC gcc understands "-pie" option and attempts to generate

So we disable PIE detection if building for ARC.
That first fixes http://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/57a/57a6180809bc51f7206280533f0b9898ce4cfbb4
and also prevents execution of non-supported PIE binary in runtime.

Interesting enough reported build failure is not directly related to PIE
it looks like if PIE is enabled then successful detection of explicit_bzero()
happens erroneously.

A simple test app that mentions explicit_bzero() while built with
"-pie" gives this output:
--------------------------------->8-----------------------------
arc-linux-gcc test.c -pie

The first sed line for ltmain_version attempts to match whitespace before

9917e48d7e pkg-autotools: fix patching libtool for version 2.4
If the libtool used by the package is 2.4 (i.e. with no patchlevel), we
end up with error messages like this one, seen when building ntp-4.2.8p3:

/bin/sh: line 0: test: 2.4: integer expression expected

That's because the current sed expression "[0-9].[0-9]." only deletes content
like "2.4.", so it leaves "2.4" (no patch level *and* no second period) intact,
resulting in an ltmain_patchlevel of "2.4", not empty, and not "0". Then the
shell line goes bad, because the built in shell test -gt operates on integers
only, and fails on floating point numbers (like "2.4").

Additionally, the existing sed lines are problematic in other ways, because the
current expression "[0-9].[0-9]" will match "234" as well as "2.4", as an unescaped
period matches any character, not just a period. Also, the lack of an asterisk
after the first character may be a problem in the future, if a two digit initial
number is used.

So, this patch changes the sed regex as follows:

* Match a string of digits when searching for a number. I.e. "[0-9]*"
* Match specifically a period in between two numbers. I.e. "\."
* When searching for a patch level, make the second period optional. I.e. "\.*"

a7bc0b9623 openssl: always build apps
Now that building the openssl binary without MMU is supported, the only
reason left for not building apps if the openssl binary is disabled is
to save build time. Moreover, the commit
720893b625 "openssl: disable apps for
NOMMU", which added this behavior, had a side effect: the scripts from
apps (CA.pl, CA.sh and tsget) and the default configuration file
(openssl.cnf) were no longer installed, which is not advertized by the
BR2_PACKAGE_OPENSSL_BIN option. CA.pl and CA.sh use the openssl binary,
so not installing them without the latter makes sense. But tsget does
not use the openssl binary, and openssl.cnf can be used by libcrypto, so
it is preferable to handle BR2_PACKAGE_OPENSSL_BIN like before the
commit mentioned above, i.e. to always build and install apps and to
just remove the openssl binary afterwards if needed.

This is what the current commit does, but installing only the helper
scripts having their dependencies (perl or the openssl binary)
satisfied. The help text is updated accordingly.

e5cbe66571 package/opencv: add opengl support
In OpenCV, OpenGL is only used by highgui module.

OpenGL support is done using extensions from 3rd party framework: either
Qt5OpenGL with Qt5 (with GL support only, not GLES); or gtkglext (which
is not available in Buildroot) with gtk2

So, make OpenGL knob a sub-option of the Qt5 support option.

Note: we enclose both the GUI toolkit choice and the GL option in an
if-block, so that the GL option gets properly indented; having it
depend on WITH_QT5 is not enough, because it does not directly follow
it, so kconfig would not consider it for indenting.

a2afd56594 package/opencv: add qt5 support
Starting with the 2.4.6 release, OpenCV supports either Qt4 or Qt5 as GUI
toolkit, so add Qt5 in the GUI toolkit choice.

When Qt4 is enabled (and thus Qt5 is hidden and disabled), no need to
show a comment stating "Qt5 support needs Qt5", because Qt5 is not
selectable.

Conversely, when Qt5 is enabled and Qt4 is not, then no need to show a
comment stating "Qt4 support needs Qt4", because enabling Qt4 would
disable Qt5.

So, we only show the comments when neither toolkit is enabled.

e6a24e2446 package/opencv: depends on GUI toolkits, rather than select them
Currently, we only support either Qt4 or gtk2, but OpenCV also
additionally supports Qt5 or gtk3, making for a choice of four
toolkits, one of: Qt4, Qt5, gtk3, gtk2 (and obviously, none).

Since Buildroot does not support coexistence of Qt4 and Qt5, we
can no longer select one and depend on the other, like so:

    config BR2_PKG_OCV_WITH_QT4
        bool "Qt4"
        depends on !BR2_PKG_QT5
        select BR2_PKG_QT

    config BR2_PKG_OCV_WITH_QT5
        bool "Qt5"
        depends on !BR2_PKG_QT
        select BR2_PKG_QT5

otherwise, we'd get a circular dependency chain in Kconfig, which would
complain with:

  package/opencv/Config.in:57:error: recursive dependency detected!
  package/opencv/Config.in:57: choice <choice> contains symbol BR2_PKG_OCV_WITH_QT5
  package/opencv/Config.in:111: symbol BR2_PKG_OCV_WITH_QT5 depends on BR2_PKG_QT
  package/qt/Config.in:5: symbol BR2_PKG_QT is selected by BR2_PKG_OCV_WITH_QT
package/opencv/Config.in:98: symbol BR2_PKG_OCV_WITH_QT is part of choice <choice>

Instead, we need to depend on either Qt version.

So, to have a consistent choice, we make all support for GUI toolkits
actually depend on the toolkit, rather than select it.

1668e1da39 packages: fix and improve support for top-level parallel make
The boost and jack2 packages fail to build when PARALLEL_JOBS is empty
so instead of using an empty PARALLEL_JOBS don't use it in the MAKE
variable when top-level parallel make is being used.

To simplify the use of top-level parallel make, check the MAKEFLAGS
variable to know automatically if the -j option is being used, also use
the "=" operator instead of the ":=" operator because the MAKEFLAGS
variable can be checked only in a "recursively expanded variable".
The "override" keyword must be used in order to change the automatic
variable "MAKE".

When the top-parallel make is being used the sub-make are called without
specifying the "-j" option in order to let GNU make share the job slots
specified in the top make. This is done because GNU make is able
to share the job slots available between each instance of make so if you
want to increase the number of jobs you just need to increase the <jobs>
value in the top make -j<jobs> command.

If we specify the -j<jobs> option in each instance of make, it is less
efficient, e.g. in a processor with 8 cores we specify -j9 in each instance:
the number of processes goes up to 81 because each sub-make can execute
9 processes. The excessive number of processes is not a good thing
because in my tests even -j16 is slower than -j9.
Instead if we don't specify the -j<jobs> option in the sub-make, the top
make share the job slots automatically between each instance, so the
number of process in this examples goes up to 9 that is faster than
using up to 81 processes.

e.g. when the -j3 option is specified only in the top make:

possible state n. 1:
process 1 - <packagea>-build
process 2 - <packagea>-build
process 3 - <packagea>-build

possible state n. 2:
process 1 - <packagea>-extract
process 2 - <packageb>-configure
process 3 - <packagec>-build

possible state n. 3:
process 1 - <packagea>-build make -j1
process 2 - <packageb>-build make -j1
process 3 - <packagec>-build make -j1

architecture (which is already set correctly), however, node-pre-gyp uses
--target-arch. Without this set node.js packages that uses node-pre-gyp
will pick the wrong target architecture.

Secondly, the use of precompiled binary packages is not desirable due to
potential security and licensing issues. To solve this we use the
--build-from-source option to force node-pre-gyp to always build the C++
code.

This patch passes npm_config_target_arch and npm_config_build_from_source
to npm which causes --target-arch and --build-from-source to be passed to
node-pre-gyp.

I have tested this using the node.js package serialport which now
successfully builds and runs.

The C99 detection problem seems more related to missing wchar_t type support than the compiler option?

Adding LIBV4L_CONF_ENV = ac_cv_prog_cc_c99='-std=c99' gives a lot of compile errors like:

libv4lconvert.c: In function 'dev_ioctl':

2fda0dd7d4 Disable gcc-4.8.x + binutils-2.25 + MIPS combination
This combination causes a compilation failure of the host-gcc-final
recipe like this one:

/br/output/host/usr/mips-buildroot-linux-gnu/bin/ld:
.libs/gload.o: relocation R_MIPS_HI16 against `__gnu_local_gp' can not
be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC

The problem is the file 'libatomic/gload.c' is compiled without -fPIC
when using binutils-2.25. All gcc (with libatomic) versions below 4.9.3
are affected by this issue.

Here is a summary of affected/unaffected versions in Buildroot:

4.7.x: unaffected (doesn't have libatomic)
4.8.x: affected
4.9.x: unaffected (we have 4.9.3 which is fixed)
5.1.x: unaffected

The fix can be found here:

  57f5c0954f

However, given the following reasons...

- Upstream gcc 4.8 branch is closed.
- The fix is very hard to backport from 4.9 to 4.8.
- This stuff is insanely sensitive and not working at all could be
better than looking like it works but not quite.

...I think the best choice is to disable that combination in Buildroot.

5cf5b39038 tor: fix building if GCC's C standard is not gnu99
Up to date tor (at least starting from 0.2.6) requires compiler with C99

If default GCC's C standard < c99 (that's the case at least for ARC)
you'll see this on attempt to build tor:

src/common/address.c: In function ''tor_addr_parse_PTR_name':
src/common/address.c:502:5: error: 'for' loop initial declarations are only allowed in C99 mode

Once you follow compiler advice and enable c99 support with "-std=c99"
you'll pass that failure but will see tons of other errors, see

d16b32a401 package/rpi-firmware: add option to install vcdbg
vcdbg is a tool to help debug the communication with the GPU.
It comes as a binary-only, and in two flavours: one for the hard
floating point ABI, one for the software floating point ABI.

Unfortunately, we have no source code for that tool, only a binary that
was dynamically linked with glibc and libraries from rpi-userland.

So, just install that executable, and let's hope there is no symbol
issue at runtime.

Note: vcdbg needs glibc, threads and !static. Since glibc already
implies threads and !static, we only need to depend on glibc.
