89c245b97a configs/qemu_aarch64_ebbr: new defconfig
Add a defconfig to build an AArch64 U-Boot based firmware implementing the
subset of UEFI defined by EBBR[1], as well as a Linux OS disk image booting
with UEFI, to run on Qemu.

The generated firmware binary can also be used to install or run another OS
supporting the EBBR specification.

We do not have Linux 5.19 headers at the moment therefore we rely on 5.17
in the defconfig.

959e9f7fde configs/sipeed_*_sdcard: Add dependency on host-openssl
Gitlab CI reported build failures for the sipeed RISC-V nommu boards
with the u-boot/sdcard enabled default configuration. The compilation
errors are related to the openssl/evp.h header file missing, e.g.:

Fix this issue by adding BR2_TARGET_UBOOT_NEEDS_OPENSSL=y to the config

3cc157e2e3 configs/visionfive_defconfig: new defconfig
Add a defconfig for the Starfive VisionFive board, a board built around the
Starfive JH7100 RISC-V 64bit SoC (same as Beaglev).

This board comes with functional lowlevel and U-Boot bootloaders in SPI
flash. The defconfig reuses these and only builds a (6.0 based) kernel and
rootfs.

The factory shipped U-Boot is hard coded to look at MMC partition 3 and
misses some variables, so we provide a uEnv.txt to fix that up, based on
what is done in provided Fedora image.

9e698c552b package/mender-grubenv: bump version to 2ac898f5924d5870f8394ad8ecd3ef1ab1422e3b
mender-grubenv no longer uses the mender_grubenv* directories, instead opting
to put the mender_grubenv directories in a grub-mender-grubenv top-level
directory. While there is a legacy install mode which keeps the two separate
directories, it is better to move forward and rip the bandaid off before it
becomes too painful to update in the future if the legacy option is removed
entirely.

- Update the license file sha256 sum due to a year change.

- mender-grubenv no longer installs grub.cfg, so mender_grub.cfg must be copied
  manually to grub.cfg.

- BOOT_DIR replaces ENV_DIR in the Makefile.

- The sleep grub2 module is now a requirement.

- /etc/mender_grubenv.config file must be present on the system for the
  grub-mender-grubenv-{print,set} scripts to work properly.

In addition to the above changes, update the mender example board file to work
with the updated mender-grubenv version.

3461465ac0 nezha_defconfig: bump opensbi, u-boot and linux
Opensbi is now based on 1.1, U-Boot on 2022.07-rc3 and Linux on 5.19-rc1.
We don't yet support 5.19 kernel headers, so use 5.17 instead.

The incompatibility between opensbi and u-boot is now fixed, so drop
0001-arch-riscv-dts-sun20i-d1.dtsi-adjust-plic-compatible.patch.

The updated device tree in the kernel tree no longer specifies a memory
node (and the board exists in 512M/1G/2G variants, so instead use the
(otherwise identical) device tree provided by u-boot, where the memory
node is fixed up based on the detected memory size.

On riscv, the linux kernel unconditionally wants to build its bundled
dtc, so it needs flex and bison, even if it is not going to build any
DTB. We can get flex and bison either via the system ones, or we get
them as they are in LINUX_KCONFIG_DEPENDENCIES. However, relying on this
is a bit fragile, so we keep asking the kernel to build a DTB, so that
we do ensure that our host-{flex,bison} are built and in the dependency
chain of the kernel (for PPD).

4ebc9d0b85 configs: remove uClibc config options
Following the switch to Glibc as the default libc in Buildroot [1],
all defconfigs expecting uClibc with wchar (or any other uClibc
specific option) should now select BR2_TOOLCHAIN_BUILDROOT_UCLIBC too.

Even if all defconfigs has been tested with uClibc, maintainers
prefer to not enforce a C library and use the default of Buildroot,
which is now glibc.

This commit remove uClibc specific options BR2_TOOLCHAIN_BUILDROOT_WCHAR,
BR2_PTHREAD_DEBUG (required by gdb) and BR2_TOOLCHAIN_BUILDROOT_USE_SSP.

Since glibc always has argp built-in, also remove the standalone one
from affected toolchains...

25ecee3f17 Revert "configs/bananapi_m1: use NEON+VFPv4 as FPU strategy"
The gcc man page states that specifying Neon as part of the fpu setting
has no effect, unless the -funsafe-math-optimizations is also specified,
because Neon is not compliant with IEEE 754:
```
    If the selected floating-point hardware includes the NEON extension
    (e.g. -mfpu=neon), note that floating-point operations are not
    generated by GCC's auto-vectorization pass unless
    -funsafe-math-optimizations is also specified. This is because NEON
    hardware does not fully implement the IEEE 754 standard for
    floating-point arithmetic (in particular denormal values are treated
    as zero), so the use of NEON instructions may lead to a loss of
    precision.
```

-funsafe-math-optimizations must be explictly specified per package to
really use NEON as FPU, but it's something that is left to the user as
well as setting BR2_ARM_FPU_NEON_VFPV4. This way the default
BR2_ARM_FPU_VFPV4D16 is used as previously. So let's revert the
offending patch.

874916567a arch: rework MMU option handling and move to "Target architecture" menu
The MMU option is currently located in the "Toolchain" menu, but it
doesn't make sense as it's really architecture related. In addition,
the selection of MMU has an impact on the choice of binary format
available, which is visible in the architecture menu.

Therefore, this commit moves the MMU option into the architecture
menu.

However, if we simply move it in arch/Config.in, it means that we
would have the following order of options:

 Target architecture
 Target architecture variant
 ABI
 MMU
 Binary format

But really, the MMU option should be right below the Target
architecture variant, and the available ABIs derived from that.

The variant and ABI are arch-specfic, and defined in the per-arch
Config.in fragments; a Kconfig option can have only one prompt defined,
even under conditions, and appears at the place in the menu where its
prompt was defined. So, there is no (easy) possibility to have a
generic option appear where we want it.

Since in fact only 2 architectures show a visible prompt for the MMU
option (RISC-V and Xtensa), we move this option in
arch/Config.in.riscv and arch/Config.in.xtensa.

Some walkthrough the commit:

 - BR2_ARCH_HAS_MMU_MANDATORY and BR2_ARCH_HAS_MMU_OPTIONAL are
removed as they are no longer needed

 - BR2_USE_MMU becomes a hidden boolean

 - All the places where we used to select BR2_ARCH_HAS_MMU_MANDATORY
   now select BR2_USE_MMU directly.

 - Introduce BR2_RISCV_USE_MMU and BR2_XTENSA_USE_MMU.

 - All defconfigs that used "# BR2_USE_MMU is not set" are switched to
   using the new option.

All in all, this simplifies things quite a bit, and allows to have a
good option ordering in the Target architecture menu.

This commit might raise a concern in terms of backward compatibility
with existing configurations. The only configurations that will be
broken by this change are RISC-V noMMU (which was very recently
introduced) and Xtensa noMMU (which we can probably agree is not such
a widely popular configuration).

fecec75b62 configs/*: use BR2_ENABLE_LTO to enable LTO instead of BR2_GCC_ENABLE_LTO
BR2_GCC_ENABLE_LTO only enables LTO in the toolchain, not in packages.
Use BR2_ENABLE_LTO instead to enable it in packages as well.

Note that BR2_GCC_ENABLE_LTO is currently non-functional (LTO is still
enabled in the toolchain even if it's not set), so we *do* have LTO
available in the toolchain.

Note that the option has no effect at all on these defconfigs anyway,
since they don't contain any package that is affected by the
BR2_ENABLE_LTO option. Still, it makes sense to enable it for these
really memory-constrained targets for when packages are added.

71cc399259 board/mender: add a mender board example configuration.
Buildroot currently has all of the needed packages to use Mender as the primary
update system. However, there isn't any documentation or examples now that
provide a starting point for users. This lack of documentation makes setting up
a Mender based update system difficult and time-consuming.

Provided in this patch series is a mender_x86_64_efi_defconfig of which sets up
an x86_64 EFI based build that is ready to flash to a USB pen drive or use in a
QEMU environment. The system partition schema comprises of two equally sized
root partitions and a data partition that mounts to /var/lib/mender as a
persistent data store partition.

There is a board/mender/readme.txt provided, which gives users documentation on
how to flash the built image or boot the image using QEMU as well.

The post-build and post-image-efi scripts also have four options:
-a --artifact-name:
  - The name of the artifact, this is added to /etc/mender/artifact_info
-o --data-part-size:
  - The data partition size.
-d --device-type
  - The device-type used by mender to catagorize registered devices.

b9bc22ee8a configs/minnowboard_max-graphical: remove defconfig
This defconfig uses mesa3d's i965 DRI driver, but mesa3d no longer has
any DRI driver now, so this defconfig no longer builds.

Switching to the Gallium driver would require access to an actual board

So, better drop this defconfig, and let an interested party reinstate
it, using the Gallium driver.

Note that we do still have the defconfig for the basic, non-graphical

Bumped the default version of the "arm-trusted-firmware" (a.k.a. TF-A)
from 2.5 to 2.7: updated the config and the tarball checksum.
Work-around CVE-2022-23960.

Updated the "qemu_aarch64_sbsa_defconfig" accordingly: it was using an
"arm-trusted-firmware" v2.4, it nows selects version 2.7.

Updated the license checksum because the license file changed
slightly: it mentions an additional file ("irq.h") released under a
dual GPL or MIT license.

Tested with the "qemu_aarch64_sbsa_defconfig" and QEMU: it boots
without new warning or error message.

ab00df55f0 board: Add Canaan KD233 board support
Add a buildroot configuration file to build a minimal Linux environment
for the Canaan KD233 board.

The configuration file is canaan_kd233_defconfig. It builds a bootable
kernel image with an embedded initramfs root file system. The image
built can be flashed to the board as is and does not require a boot
loader. This configuration uses the tiny busybox configuration defined
in board/canaan/k210-soc/busybox-tiny.config.

U-Boot currently does not support this board, making it impossible to
boot the kernel after loading it from the SD card. However, the SD card
is usable from Linux once booted using the canaan_kd233_defconfig
configuration.

The configuration also enable the kflash and pyserial-miniterm host
tools for flashing image files to the board and opening a terminal
console.

9db5eb258c package/elf2flt: Remove Config.in.host
There is no need to have configuration files direbtly set the
BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_ELF2FLT option. The need for the elf2flt utility is
automatically determined by gcc build in package/gcc/gcc.mk according to
the BR2_BINFMT_FLAT option.

Accordingly, we can remove the file package/elf2flt/Config.in.host to
get rid of the BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_ELF2FLT option. BR2_STRIP_strip
dependency on this option is replaced with a dependency on
BR2_BINFMT_ELF.

To stay consistent with the fact that elf2flt supports only the arm, sh,
sparc, xtensa and riscv-64 architectures, a dependency on these
architectures is added to the BR2_BINFMT_FLAT option in arch/Config.in.

Board configuration files setting the BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_ELF2FLT option

b73f5c32af add configs/zynqmp_kria_kv260_defconfig
This patch adds support for Xilinx Kria KV260 starter kit.

KV260 features can be found here:
https://www.xilinx.com/products/boards-and-kits/kv260.html

While the Kria SOM is based on a ZynqMP SoC, there are some key
boot config differences from the other ZynqMP evaluation boards.

1. There are no boot switches on Kria SOMs. The boot mode is thus
hard configured for QSPI flash. A pre-programmed boot.bin comes
with every Starter Kit. U-Boot can then find the Linux kernel and
file system on the SD card.

Optional instructions for updating the boot.bin in the QSPI flash
can be found in the readme.txt file and the link below.

https://xilinx-wiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/A/pages/1641152513/Kria+K26+SOM

2. Kria SOMs use UART1 for the console instead of UART0. For this
reason, Kria Starter Kits will use a separate extlinux.conf file
from other ZynqMP evaluation boards.

8f3cfe4196 configs/qemu_xtensa_lx60_nommu: use busybox minimal config
Update the qemu_xtensa_lx60_nommu_defconfig to use the
busybox-minimal.config.

After commit 3de486f8b0 ("package/busybox: fix udhcpc options in minimal
config"), this has the benefit of fixing the following network
initialization failure:

  udhcpc: invalid option -- b

With the full busybox config, the -b option would still be passed and
udhcpc would fail to start for the reason above.

Note that on NOMMU, udhcpc backgrounds unconditionally (unless the -f
option is given), so it still behaves properly. The -b option in fact
only backgrounds after the lease is obtained; on NOMMU, backgrounding is
done before the lease is even requested. So the behaviour is more or
less the same, except that on MMU systems, networking can be considered
either up or not available after S20network, but on NOMMU there is no
such guarantee.

507b1b9770 configs/cubieboard2: U-Boot needs Python3 & OpenSSL
After update of the U-Boot [1] we were missing dependency on Python3,
and so were seeing failures like in [2]:
------------------------->8--------------------
  HOSTLD scripts/dtc/dtc
scripts/dtc/pylibfdt/libfdt_wrap.c:154:11: fatal error: Python.h: No such file or directory

compilation terminated.
error: command '/usr/bin/gcc' failed with exit code 1
------------------------->8--------------------

So that get fixed with "BR2_TARGET_UBOOT_NEEDS_PYTHON3=y".
And then once we use Python3, we also need OpenSSL, similarly to [3]
and the likes. So do it with "BR2_TARGET_UBOOT_NEEDS_OPENSSL=y".

Hopefully now all starts to build w/o any issues.

7d914839a4 configs/qemu_ppc64le_powernv8: new defconfig
PowerNV is the platform using the OPAL [1] firmware on OpenPOWER
systems. OPAL first loads a kernel and an initramfs image based on
buildroot including a second boot loader petitboot [2]. The latter
does device discovery and kexecs a new Linux image from disk or
network.

QEMU implements PowerNV machines [3] for the POWER8, POWER9 and
Power10 processors which are used for dev and tests. POWER8 images
being compatible with POWER9 and Power10, simply add a single
qemu_ppc64le_powernv8 board for all.

The QEMU script boots directly from a nvme disk because it is simple
enough but a real system would boot from a ramfs first.

53d82096b6 qemu_arm_versatile_nommu: switch to in-kernel defconfig + fragment
This platform has its own kernel defconfig in Buildroot, but we cannot
get quick idea about how much it diverged from the in-kernel defconfig.

Let's use the upstream arch/arm/config/versatile_defconfig as a base,
and maintain the diff as a merge-config fragment. The same .config is
still generated based on the 5.10.7 kernel.

The diff is quite big, but this is a good start-point for cleanups.
Follow-up works can drop diff lines unless we find a good reason for
divergence.

Inspired by commit a3e3d9c198 ("configs/stm32f469_disco_xip_defconfig:
alternative defconfig for XIP"), update the stm32f429_disco_defconfig
configuration to use a newer kernel. Current setup kernel + rootfs fits
in 1.6MB on-chip flash memory.

The kernel has been moved to new flash bank due to growth of dtb size.

Remove upstream patch.

For better binary size optimization gcc LTO is turned on.

b235a2cffc boot/afboot-stm32: upgrade version
Newer versions of the kernel generate device trees that are not
storable in a single 16kB sector. In these cases the kernel load address
must be changed.
The commit 2e499dcff3ef ("Add possibility to use custom kernel load address")
adds the possibility to override the default (0x08008000) kernel load
address.

This also required changes to the stm32f429_disco_defconfig and
stm32f469_disco_xip_defconfig configurations. Patching is no longer
needed.

Also update whitespaces in hash file (2 spaces).

The current configuration fails to boot on the stm32f469-disco board.
Make it bootable again by reverting the DRAM patches.

Also change the kernel load address from 0x8010000 to 0x800C000 to
allocate more space to the kernel, since 32kB for the device tree is
enough.

086c96b452 configs/pc_x86_64_bios_defconfig: fix image generation after grub2 rework
Commit 82d1e8c628 (boot/grub2: use none platform when building for
host) changed host-grub2 to only install the tools, not the actual
bootloader or its modules, as they are of no use on the host.

It so happened that, when not instructed to built for a specific
platform, the grub2 buildsystem would default to build the legacy bios
platform (at least when the build happens on an x86 or x86_64 host).

However, because the host is more often than not an x86 or x86_64, when
the target was also an x68 or x86_64, the modules built for the host
could be re-used for the target, and this is what was done for our
pc_x86_64_bios_defconfig.

But now that we explicitly tell the grub2 buildsystem to not build any
platform when we build host-grub2, we no longer have access to the grub2
modules from the host directory, and the build fails when assembling the
final image.

We fix that in two ways:

First, we ensure that individual modules from the target grub2 get installed
in target/; we can only do that if the target grub2 tools are also
installed, so we enable that in the configuration.

Second, we fix the post-build script to look in target/ rather than in
host/.

All that, just for the 512-byte boot.img bootstrap, which pulls in all
the other modules (4.3MiB), the tools (8.8MiB)... But we are not going
to cherry-pick individual modules; this is error prone and
unmaintainable...

Add a defconfig for the Allwinner Nezha, a raspberrypi-style board built
around the RISC-V 64bit D1 SoC.

There is currently no upstream support, so use the git repos from Samuel
Holland as explained on the linux-sunxi wiki:

The U-Boot DTB is also used by opensbi, but the two branches are
unfortunately not in sync at the moment, so add a patch to fix the
compatible for the PLIC so opensbi makes it available to S-Mode (Linux).

The use of the sun20i-d1-spl SPL bootloader / TOC1 file format also makes it
a bit more complicated to build the boot image. As this is expected to only
be a temporary issue, add a U-Boot patch to build the TOC1 image as part of
the build rather than adding explicit support in our U-Boot package to do
it.
